  1. (a) how many crofters now exist;
  2. (b) what hectarage is under crofting tenure;

  4. (c) what is the total public cost of administering crofting, including grant aid and loans; and
  5. (d) what is the cost of the Crofters' Commission.

The information sought by the noble Lord is as follows: —

  1. (a) 13,987 (at 30th September 1983);
  2. (b) 885,000 hectares, including common grazings;
  3. (c) £5.7 million in 1982–83;
  4. (d) £0.75 million in 1982–83.
