Mr. Body

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how much are the import levies on maize and rice from Africa, Pacific and Caribbean countries; and how much they are from countries outside the Africa, Pacific and Caribbean group, in each case at the most recent convenient date.

Maize — other than for sowing — imported into the United Kingdom from Africa, Pacific and Caribbean countries bore levy—including monetary compensatory amounts—of £36.6853 per tonne on 28 October 1983. Maize from other third countries bore levy — including monetary compensatory amounts — of £37.7324 per tonne on the same date.

Importations of rice, which is not subject to monetary compensatory amounts, into the United Kingdom bore levy on 28 October 1983 according to the following table:
