asked the Secretary of State for Defence what is his latest estimate of the total cost of the programmes for (a) Tornado and (b) new torpedoes.

As reported to the Public Accounts Committee in 1982, the total estimated production cost to the United Kingdom of the Tornado aircraft programme is £6,175 million at forecast average 1982–83 prices; the total estimated cost of the new torpedo programme was given as £2,320 million on the same price base.
