HC Deb 12 May 1983 vol 42 cc489-90W
Mr. Wardell

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he has any plans to extend Manpower Services Commission funding so that the Manpower Services Commission can give a grant to employers who offer placements to students completing the training element of their three-year higher national diploma course so that students can be paid; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peter Morrison

The Manpower Services Commission provides financial support to employers who offer industrial placements to college-based sandwich course students at degree or HND level in engineering, technology or computer science. Grants are made available through industry training organisations, which may have to decide priorities for support within the criteria laid down by the commission. Payment to students is, however, a matter between student and employer.
