Sir David Price

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will list in the Official Report the present extent of United Kingdom self-sufficiency in the production of all major temperate foodstuffs; and how it compares with similar figures 10 years previously.

Cmnd. 8804 also includes information—table 1 — about the aggregate value of home produced food as a percentage of all indigenous type food consumed in the United Kingdom: this measure of self sufficiency in food increased from 62 per cent. in 1971–73 to 76 per cent. in 1981–82.
