§ Mr. William Rossasked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what progress has been made in restocking the river Roe and river Owenreagh; how many fish, of which species, sizes and ages, have been involved; what has been the cost of (a) the restocking and (b) the monitoring of other living creatures in these rivers; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Adam ButlerThe following fish stocks have been placed in these rivers since 1 January 1983:
Number Salmon Eyed Ova 118,000 Under 1 year old 40,000 Over 1 year old 30,000 Brown Trout Under 1 year old 20,000 Over 2 years old 400 Subject to agreement with local angling interests a further 4,000 brown trout are available for stocking in the near future.
The cost of restocking to date has been £29,255.
The cost of monitoring other aquatic life in these rivers since 11 September 1982 has amounted to approximately £2,300.
The effects of the restocking will be reviewed over the 1984, 1985 and 1986 seasons.
