§ Mr. Trotterasked the Secretary of State for Industry whether he will provide an analysis under appropriate headings of the £1.7 billion of aid provided to the north east by the Government referred to on 31 March, Official Report, c. 487.
§ Mr. MacGregorThe figure was made up of industrial and other assistance to the northern region under national and regional schemes during the period May 1979 to March 1983 amounting to some £705 million, and public expenditure in the region on infrastructure provision directly relating to industrial development estimated at £1,000 million.
The £705 million is made up as follows:
