9. Mr. R. C. Mitchell

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many young people between the ages of 16 and 18 years were unemployed in Northern Ireland at the latest available date.

Mr. Adam Butler

At 14 April 1983 there were 13,614 unemployed claimants in Northern Ireland between the ages of 16 and 18 years inclusive.

Mr. Parry

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will make a statement on the latest unemployment figures in the Province.

Mr. Adam Butler

At 14 April 1983 there were 116,373 unemployed claimants in Northern Ireland, which was 20.9 per cent. of all employees. That was an increase of 2,704 since last month, accounted for in part by the influx of Easter school leavers.
