asked the Secretary of State for the Environment in which local authorities enterprise zones have been established; and for which others firm proposals have been announced.

Enterprise zones exist in the following local authority areas in England:

Enterprise Zone and Local Authority/Authorities Corby

  • Corby District Council

Dudley

  • Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council

Hartlepool

  • Hartlepool Borough Council

Isle of Dogs

  • Tower Hamlets Borough Council
  • Newham Borough Council

Newcastle/Gateshead

  • City of Newcastle upon Tyne
  • Gateshead Metropolitan Borough Council

Salford/Trafford

  • City of Salford
  • Trafford Metropolitan Borough Council

Speke

  • Liverpool City Council

Wakefield

  • Wakefield Metropolitan District Council

In addition, the Government have announced its intention to establish further enterprise zones in England, as follows:

Enterprize Zone and Local Authority/Authorities Middlesbrough

  • Middlesbrough Borough Council

North East Lancashire

  • Burnley Borough Council
  • Hyndburn Borough Council
  • Pendle Borough Council
  • Rossendale Borough Council

North West Kent

  • Gillingham Borough Council

  • Rochester-upon-Medway City Council

Rotherham

  • Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council

Scunthorpe

  • Scunthorpe Borough Council

Telford

  • District of the Wrekin Council

Wellingborough

Workington

  • Allerdale District Council

I have now issued statutory invitations to all the above local authorities, with the exception of the district of the Wrekin council, to prepare schemes for the development of the new zones.
