HC Deb 12 May 1983 vol 42 c447W
Mr. Peter Robinson

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland whether her Majesty's Government have any plans to introduce a formal system of identification for elections in Northern Ireland in the light of high incidence of impersonation.

Mr. Prior

It is not practicable to introduce such a system in advance of the general election. It would require amendment of the Representation of the People Act 1983. But this issue will be kept under close and continuing review.
