Mr. Steen

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will list the cycle schemes which his Department has financed in each local authority area; how much Government funds have been made available; how much local authority money is involved in each scheme; and what is the distance of each cycle provision made.

The Department funds directly the innovative elements of local authority cycle schemes. Any associated local authority expenditure is eligible for support through transport supplementary grant, but details of such expenditure are not recorded centrally. The Department's expenditure up to 31 March 1983 was as follows:
