§ Mr. Ancramasked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he intends to take selective action in the current year against any Scottish local authorities for their high level of budgeted expenditure.
§ Mr. YoungerI have decided to initiate action under section 5 of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1966, as amended, against five authorities, and they are being informed today. I am proposing that rates reductions should be made by Shetland islands council, Lothian regional council, Glasgow, Kirkcaldy and Stirling district councils. The councils now have the opportunity to make representations to me.
