HC Deb 04 May 1983 vol 42 c88W
31. Mr. Craigen

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement on the setting up of the proposed information technology centres for the unemployed in Scotland; and when reaching his decisions on their location, whether he will keep in mind the claims of the Maryhill area

Mr. Alexander Fletcher

The Manpower Services Commission, and the Department of Industry, has allocated funds to set up a total of 24 information technology centres in Scotland. Of these, four are already operating and the remainder are expected to be in operation by the end of this year. The allocation includes provision for four information technology centres in Glasgow, and the Manpower Services Commission is actively considering the possibility that one of these might be located in the north west area of the city.
