HC Deb 04 May 1983 vol 42 c74W
Mr. Leighton

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what voluntary sector projects established in docklands were funded under urban aid between 1978 and 1981 with grants guaranteed for three or five years; and if he will make a statement of his intentions concerning those projects when these grants expire.

Sir George Young

Seventy three voluntary organisations received grants for three or more years under the docklands urban programme between 1978 and 1981.

The funding of projects under the urban programme is normally limited to a maximum period of five years. If the project requires further funding at the end of that period, the organisation is expected to look for alternative sources, including applying to the local authority for assistance under its main programmes. This general rule applies in docklands as it does elsewhere, although the London Docklands Development Corporation will consider on their merits fresh applications for projects previously funded under the urban programme, which would help in achieving LDDC's objective of regenerating its area.
