Changes in the way grant was paid over the relevant period limit the ability to compare grant entitlements over a period of years. The information in the tables therefore requires careful interpretation in the light of the explanatory notes attached. Information for 1982–83 and 1983–84 is shown only in cash as information on pay and price changes is not yet available to compare them in real terms with previous years.
