§ 31. Mr. Bill Walkerasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will take steps to stimulate the tourist industry in Tayside.
§ Mr. John MacKayMy right hon. Friend has already taken steps to stimulate the tourist industry throughout Scotland by encouraging the creation of a new network of area tourist boards in which local authorities and the tourist trade, with financial support from the Scottish tourist board, will co-operate to promote their areas more effectively. He has also made available to the Scottish tourist board an additional £600,000 per annum to support the network. In Tayside the Scottish tourist board expects in 1983–84 to give grant assistance of £50,000 and £30,000 respectively to the area tourist boards already in operation in Perthshire and the city of Dundee.
