HC Deb 29 March 1983 vol 40 c123W
Mr. William Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what new initiatives he intends to take to alleviate the problems of those unemployed for longer than 12 months and 24 months, respectively.

Mr. Alison

Our principal initiative to help such people in the short term is the community programme, which was launched in October last year.

The long-term unemployed can also benefit from our other special employment measures, including the two new measures announced by my right hon. and learned Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer in his Budget statement: the part-time job release scheme, and the extension of the Enterprise allowance scheme to the whole of Great Britain.
