§ Mr. Alexander FletcherThe percentage increase in(a) total and (b) male unemployed claimants—the new basis of the count—in Scotland between January 1982 and January 1983 was nine per cent. and 8.9 per cent., respectively. Figures for the Edinburgh travel-to-work area are not available on a comparable basis. but the following table gives the numbers of (a) total and (b) male unemployed registrants—the old basis of the unemployment count—at January 1982 and the number of unemployed claimants—the new basis—at January 1983.
