§ Mr. MayhewThe number of Metropolitan police officers employed at any time on these duties varies according to the number of prisoners held and the number 421W of locations used. We understand from the Commissioner that on 16 March, when 179 remanded and sentenced prisoners were held at 25 locations, 25 sergeants and 85 constables were employed on guarding duties.
