asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will take steps to define the term "locally generated demand" in relation to the release of building land in Mid-Sussex.

This would be a question for the local planning authorities to determine in the context of the west Sussex structure plan policies. As we indicated in the notice of approval to the structure plan on 13 June 1980,In general, it is considered that the term should cover normal local requirements such as for housing generated by existing households, or for housing for which the need is generated by local industries, but detailed interpretation will depend on the context in which the term has to be applied.
