§ The Prime MinisterThe Police and Criminal Evidence Bill, which is based in part on the recommendations of the Royal Commission on Criminal Procedures, gives effect to the policy of the Government that the police should be given adequate powers to enable them to protect the public from crime and that at the same time the safeguards for the individual provided by the present law should be strengthened.
