§ Mr. Fieldasked the hon. Member for Wokingham, as representing the Church commissioners, if he will state (a) the current membership of the Advisory Board for Redundant Churches, giving the date and length of appointment, (b) the new members to be appointed for 1 April, (c) when he expects to appoint a new chairman of the advisory board, (d) if he will list the qualities that have been taken into account when making the appointment and (e) if the views of the advisory board were sought before making the appointment of chairmen.
§ Sir William van StraubenzeeThe Church Commissioners are not responsible for the appointment of the chairman and members of the Advisory Board for Redundant Churches. Under section 42(1) of the Pastoral Measure 1968, these appointments are made by the Archbishops of Canterbury and York jointly after consultation with the Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury. I feel sure that the Archbishop of Canterbury would be ready to correspond with the hon. Gentleman about his question if he cares to write to him.
