Mr. Peter Rees

[pursuant to his reply, 16 March 1983, c. 195.]: The crude balance of trade was as follows:

£ million
1979 -655
1980 -446
1981 -989

Source:

Overseas Trade Statistics of the United Kingdom, SITC(R2) divisions 65 and 84—excluding Group 848—groups 266 and 267, and sub-group 268.7—part.

Notes:

(a) The crude balance of trade is the difference between exports valued fob and imports valued cif.

(b) The figure for 1981 includes a considerable element of estimation based on sampling of expots for the months of March to August inclusive, and accordingly should be interpreted with caution.
