HC Deb 17 March 1983 vol 39 c227W
Mr. Ancram

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will give details of the provision of nurses for geriatric patients in the National Health Service hospitals in Scotland.

Mr. John MacKay

At 30 September 1982, 2,129.7 trained nurses and 2,822.5 nursing auxiliaries—whole time equivalents—were employed in geriatric hospitals and in long-stay units mainly for geriatric patients. Statistics of nurses in training at these hospitals are not available.

Geriatric patients are nursed also in general and geriatric beds in general and teaching hospitals but the number of nurses involved cannot be separately identified.
