asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether any items have been accepted recently by the Government in satisfiction of capital transfer tax.

Mr. Channon

Yes. A collection of Chinese ceramics and works of art, a painting by Eric Kennington and a collection of papers and portraits related to William Wordsworth, have been accepted in part satisfaction of capital transfer tax.

The net cost, borne equally on the Votes of my Department and the Department of the Environment, was £50,112.50, £12,119 and £9,900, respectively.
