§ Mr. Proctorasked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what progress he has made in his discussions with Ministers and officials of the Republic of Ireland in dealing with the problems of toxic waste and water pollution in rivers and lakes in border areas.
§ Mr. David MitchellI discussed these issues with the Minister for the Environment of the Republic of Ireland when we met in May 1982. Since that meeting, officials of the Department of the Environment for Northern Ireland have had several meetings with central and local government officials from the Republic of Ireland which have led to useful exchanges of information and have opened up the prospects for greater co-operation in dealing with common problems relating to the disposal of toxic waste and water pollution in rivers and lakes in border areas. Further meetings are being arranged to examine specific aspects of these matters.
