§ Sir Frederick Burdenasked the Secretary of State for Industry what steps the Government have taken to redevelop the Chatham dockyards for civilian use.
§ Mr. Norman LamontI have asked the English Industrial Estates Corporation to extend its activities outside the assisted areas of England so as to undertake developments in the Chatham dockyards in co-operation with the private sector and local authorities. Under these arrangements the corporation will shortly be purchasing the commercial dockyard and commencing its redevelopment. The Government will provide the EIEC with the necessary funds to undertake this work without affecting their programme of developments in the assisted areas of England.
