HC Deb 11 March 1983 vol 38 c527W
Mrs. Knight

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services when figures will be available for him to estimate the proportion of gross national product devoted to the National Health Service in 1982; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

The proportion of United Kingdom gross national product devoted to the NHS is calculated from figures in the CSO's annual publication "National Income and Expenditure". The 1982 figures will be in the 1983 edition due to be published in September this year.

Meanwhile a provisional estimate of the NHS's share in gross domestic product at market prices for 1982 is 5.54 per cent.
