HC Deb 11 March 1983 vol 38 c506W
Mr. Newens

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if Lieutenant Alan Gingles, who was killed in Mozambique while serving with the South African army, had any residual commitments to Her Majesty's armed forces at the time of his death; and if his service with the South African army was approved by the Defence Council in view of his commission in the British Army.

Mr. Wiggin

At the time of his death, Alan Gingles did have a residual commitment to the Regular Army Reserve of officers. The Defence Council had not been asked to approve his service with the South African defence force.
