§ Mr. Viggersasked the Secretary of State for Employment what proposals he has to help modernise practice in the payment of wages.
§ Mr. TebbitThe Government are aware of the view that the Truck Acts and related legislation are one obstacle to the faster spread of modern methods of wage payments. I am today issuing a range of proposals for consultation. As the suggested changes could not be made within the constraints of International Labour convention 95—concerning the protection of wages—I am at the same time consulting organisations representing employers and workers on the Government's proposal to denounce that convention by 23 September 1983.
