§ Mr. MacGregorIn 1981–82, £34.5 million of assistance was provided to the textile, clothing and footwear industries in the form of regional development grants, assistance under sections 7 and 8 of the Industrial Development Act 1982 and the Science and Technology Act 1965. This sum represents 4 per cent. of the total of such assistance granted by the Department of Industry and 1.3 per cent. of the Department's total assistance to industry, including the nationalised industries, in that year.
