§ Lord SkelmersdaleThe closure of the Princes Risborough Laboratory and the transfer of its functions and staff to Garston has been estimated to cost a total of £4.4 million, covering design and provision of new facilities, relocation of equipment and staff and an allowance for lost research time. The savings estimated are £1.5 million related to the sale of the site and £350,000 per year in maintenance and running costs and support staff costs. Discounting these figures at 5 per cent. over 60 years gives a net saving of £2.9 million.
