asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will estimate the number of pensioner households in England and Wales.

The following table shows the numbers of households in England and Wales at the time of the 1981 census which contained persons of pensionable age. This, and other information on such households, is published in "Census 1981, National Report, Great Britain, part I."
