HC Deb 10 March 1983 vol 38 c499W
Mr. Donald Stewart

asked the Secretary of State for Employment, pursuant to the answer of 25 February, Official Report, c. 553, what are the reasons for the reduction in the number of factory inspectors employed in Scotland since 1979.

Mr. Gummer

[pursuant to his reply, 7 March 1983, c. 322–23]: The Government are determined to use resources as effectively as possible, and to that end the Health and Safety Executive has reduced the number of inspectors employed in Scotland, but has so reorganised the work of the inspectorate that resources are concentrated on areas of greatest priority.
