Applications approved Number 1978 1,071 1979 2,394 1980 4,255 1981 4,663 1982 *5,511 * January to September only. Grants in 1978 and 1979 were available to private owners only. Since the fourth quarter of 1980 tenants have also been able to apply for grants and separate annual figures for grants to private owners are not available for that, or subsequent, years.
§ Mr. McTaggartasked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many houses in (a) Glasgow and (b) Scotland under the auspices of the district councils, the Scottish Special Housing Association and housing associations, have been approved for improvement grants in each of the past five years.
§ Mr. Allan StewartI assume that the hon Member wants to know the number of houses improved by these agencies. Improvement grants as such are not, and have not been, paid to any significant extent to their tenants, though the provisions of the Tenants' Rights, Etc. (Scotland) Act 1980 made such payments possible.
