HC Deb 09 March 1983 vol 38 c402W
Mr. Charles Irving

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether EC member states may now export live food animals for immediate slaughter to non-EC countries, including North Africa.

Mrs. Fenner

The European Community directives concerned with the protection of animals during international transport do not place any restrictions on the purposes for which live animals may be exported to third countries, or on the destinations which are permissible. The United Kingdom does not at present permit the export of live food animals other than to member states of the European Community.
