HC Deb 08 March 1983 vol 38 c377W
76. Sir Frederick Burden

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what representations he has received about wage levels fixed by wages councils; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Alison

We have received over 300 letters from hon. Members, employers' organisations and individual employers, both in large and small businesses, protesting about the increases proposed by the retail trades (non-food) and retail food and allied trades wages councils.

I would also refer my hon. Friend to the reply I gave earlier today to my hon. Friend the Member for Skipton (Mr. Watson).
