§ Mr. Pavittasked the Prime Minister if she will list in the Official Report those clear and compelling reasons, which she will consider before accepting recommendations from the nurses review body.
§ The Prime MinisterAs I told my hon. Friend the Member for Canterbury (Mr. Crouch) on 22 February—Vol. 37, c. 388—we are currently consulting upon proposals for the establishment of the review body covering nursing and midwifery staff and the professions allied to medicine. We propose that the new review body should follow the same general pattern as that for doctors and dentists, and the consultation document draws attention to the Government's assurance to the doctors and dentists review body that its recommendations will be accepted unless there are clear and compelling reasons for not doing so. No distinction is drawn between the two review bodies on this account. Any decision not to implement their recommendations in full could only be judged in the light of the circumstances of the time.
