§ Mr. MayhewExpenditure on crime prevention publicity is substantial and has in recent years been an increasing proportion of the Home Office publicity budget. Both we and the police already issue advice in various forms on precautions against street crime, including bag snatching. However, publicity is only one aspect of preventive action. Police forces are increasingly adopting operational measures to prevent this type of crime.
