§ Mr. Georgeasked the Prime Minister if she will contact former Prime Ministers for the period 1970 to 1979 with a view to declassifying short of the 30-year norm documents created by the Central Policy Review Staff as allowed under section 5(1) of the Public Records Act 1958 which permits early release provided the Lord Chancellor's approval is granted.
§ The Prime MinisterNo. The policy of successive Governments has been that the advice of the Central Policy Review Staff, like other official advice to Ministers, is normally treated as confidential and there are no grounds for exempting CPRS documents from the 30-year rule.
