HC Deb 29 July 1983 vol 46 c655W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what is the latest estimate for the total cost of the new Ysbyty Gwynedd district general hospital at Bangor; how this compares with the original cost; and how this difference in cost is explained in terms of (a) inflation (b) additional work to be funded by his Department and (c) additional non-essential items specified by the area health authority.

Mr. Stradling Thomas

£32.7 million. When tenders were let in March 1976 and October 1978 the estimated cost was £20.3 million. Of the increased costs £5.56 million can be attributed to inflation and £0.132 million to additional items to be funded by the health authority.

The cost of works to be funded by the Department is £4.26 million. This figure includes both additional and remedial works.

In addition £2.5 million is attributed to claims by the main contractor for the delay.
