HC Deb 29 July 1983 vol 46 c650W
Mr. Nicholas Winterton

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what information he has as to which countries in the European Community operate schemes aimed at avoiding redundancies by subsidising the wages of employees on short-time working and as to how many employees are currently supported in each of these countries through these schemes.

Mr. Alan Clark

We know that schemes of this type are operating at the moment in France, Germany, Italy and Luxembourg but these vary in the support offered and in the methods of funding. We do not have up-to-date information on the numbers currently supported through these schemes.
