HC Deb 29 July 1983 vol 46 c687W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many neighbourhood watch schemes exist in England and Wales; if he will list their locations; what further schemes are planned and where; and how his Department is monitoring the progress, of existing schemes.

Mr. Hurd

The organisation of neighbourhood watch schemes is a matter for each chief officer of police. No figures are yet available. I understand that few schemes are in operation at present, but several forces, including the Metropolitan police, are in the process of introducing them, or considering doing so. The Home Office, through its crime prevention centre, will keep in close touch with these developments.
