Mr. Boyes

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what is the total budget for the Manpower Services Commission for the current year; how much money is received from the European social fund specifically to fund projects paid for out of the Manpower Services Commission budget in the current year; and what percentage of European social fund monies allocated to the United Kingdom the Manpower Services Commission has received for each year from 1975 to 1983.

The total provision for grant-in-aid to the Manpower Services Commission for 1983–84 is £1,447 million. Allocations from the European social fund are made on a calendar year basis. The European Commission will not announce its decisions on the bulk of applications for support from the social fund in respect of current Manpower Services Commission programmes until later in the year.

The percentage of the total social fund allocation to the United Kingdom allocated in respect of Manpower Services Commission programmes in each of the years 1976 to 1982 was as follows:
