HC Deb 29 July 1983 vol 46 c681W
Mr. McQuarrie

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will make a statement about the Fishing Vessels (Temporary Financial Assistance) Scheme 1982.

Mr. Jopling

On 10 May my predecessor informed my hon. Friend the Member for Wyre (Sir W. Clegg)—[Vol. 42, c. 231]—that the Commission had declared that the Fishing Vessel Temporary Support schemes 1980 and 1981 were incompatible with the Common Market and that such subsidies must accordingly no longer be granted. He then notified the Commission that both schemes had been closed. In a further communication the Commission has now set out the view that all identical present and future aids are incompatible with the Common Market.

I shall be informing the Commission that the Fishing Vessels (Temporary Financial Assistance) Scheme 1982, which is similar in nature to the 1980 and 1981 schemes, has also been closed.
