HC Deb 29 July 1983 vol 46 c669W
Mr. Dorrell

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the estimated cost of extending entitlement to full rate death grant to all men aged over 90 and women aged over 85 years.

Dr. Boyson

Assuming the extension of entitlement was limited to those cases only and not for other deaths where no payment or modified payment of death grant is now made, the full year cost in 1983–84 would be £1.5 million, falling to £1.3 million in 1984–85 and £1.1 million in 1985–86. Extension of a £30 death grant to all deaths would cost £2.3 million in extra benefit in the full year 1983–84.
