HC Deb 29 July 1983 vol 46 c661W
Mr. Parry

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) how many units of blood have been supplied to private hospitals by National Health Service hospitals since May 1979 in England and Wales;

(2) how many units of blood have been supplied to the Alexandra private hospital, Mill lane, Cheadle, by the Park hospital, Daveyhulme in each of the past four years.

Mr. John Patten

Information about the supply of blood to non-National Health Service hospitals through National Health Service hospital blood banks is not held centrally.

Mr. Parry

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) if a blood group and antibody screen is carried out by the blood transfusion service before blood is supplied to National Health Service and other hospitals in England and Wales;

(2) if blood cross-matching is carried out by the blood transfusion service before blood is supplied to National Health Service and other hospitals in England and Wales.

Mr. John Patten

Not as a matter of routine. However, cross-matching, blood grouping and antibody screening is carried out by some regional transfusion centres for hospitals which do not have the necessary facilities.
