HC Deb 29 July 1983 vol 46 cc672-3W
Mr. Wrigglesworth

asked the Secretary of State for Defence which countries in the last five years have been allowed to purchase (a) arms and (b) paramilitary equipment from the United Kingdom.

Mr. Pattie

Following is a list of 92 countries with which contracts for military equipment have been signed since 1979, and which were notified to the Ministry of Defence. As such, the list, though substantially correct, may not be comprehensive, because not all private orders, particularly those of a minor nature have to be notified to the defence sales organisation. All exports of military equipment as defined in group 1 of the Export of Goods (Control) Order are of course carefully controlled, and subject to the granting of an export licence by the Department of Trade. It is not, however, possible to provide separate information on sales of paramilitary equipment.
