§ Mr. Shersbyasked the Lord Privy Seal by what amount the salary of a senior principal in the Civil Service is abated to take account of the cost of the non-contributory pension scheme.
§ Mr. BiffenAll male and some female non-industrial civil servants make an actual contribution of 1½ per cent. of pay for family benefits. Taking this into account, the Scott report (Cmnd. 8147) indicated that civil servants effectively paid the equivalent of 7.9 per cent. of their gross pay for pension benefits, on the basis of the 1980 pay settlement. Pay settlements in the last three years are unlikely to have affected this situation to any great extent.
