§ Mr. O'Brienasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what progress has been made towards the appointment of the chairmen and members of the regional water authorities; and when the announcement of these appointments will be made.
§ Mr. GowMy right hon. Friend will make appointments as soon as possible to the membership of regional water authorities with effect from 1 October 1983. Local authorities have been asked to submit their nominations for membership by 1 September. My right298W hon. Friend will also announce as soon as possible the names of the chairmen who will be in office from 1 October of those water authorities whose present chairmen's terms expire on 30 September.
